CEU Review for CEUflix

Sign language interpreters are required to get Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in order to retain their interpreter certification. Whether you are nationally certified (RID) or certified under your state, having versatile ways to access CEUs is a necessity.  MT&A asked their president Shelly Tisius to do a CEU review for CEUflix of her experience with a specific webinar to help guide our community as we choose where to get our CEUs.

Shelly’s Review

Online CEUs such as webinars are just as important as face to face workshops.  I do my best to get a mix of both.  One of the newest online CEU platforms I tried was CEUflix.

Presenter(s)

This website was started and is maintained by April and Jefferey Dunlap who currently reside in Missouri.  Both of them have a wealth of knowledge and experience in interpreting and volunteering, and they are just plain fun to be around.

Purpose

April and Jeffery’s purpose is to provide “entertaining,” informative CEUs and they have hit the nail on the head.  They add outtakes into their videos, which is pure hilarity.  I was laughing so hard when I watched the following clip.  (In fact, I may have watched it a few times.)

Price

First off, the price is great at $9.99 per month.  It is currently only available in a year subscription, so you must sign up for one year in advance.  But I hope this feature will be modified for people like me who like a mixture of both.  They even have a promotion so you can get one month off as a new user.  Find the coupon here, or you sign up normally through www.ceuflix.com and use the promo code STL.

Plot – Summary of Content

Each webinar begins with a general explanation from April and Jeffery followed by the coursework.  I like that it is divided into sections that are easy to start and stop (since I am frequently interrupted by my toddler).  I also like that there are diverse topics, and they hold my interest for the entire time.  I can skim through the topics and decide what I want to learn about that day, depending on my skill level and mood.  They also use experts (i.e. attorneys) to talk about different topics, so you know that you’re getting accurate information.  Additionally, the video quality is awesome, like watching a movie.

Platform Rating (Overall Experience)

How would you rate this webinar platform on a scale from 1 to 4?

I would say that it is a 4 for all the reasons I stated above.  Additionally, the platform is clean, pleasing to the eye, easy to navigate, and easy to use.

If you would recommend this webinar, who would you recommend take it?

I suggest it for anyone.  The content is broad so it would apply to any skill level whether a new or seasoned sign language interpreter.

Would you describe this webinar as same ol’ same ol’ or innovative? If innovative, what unique feature will you take away from this webinar?

This format is different than any format I have used previously.  They are to the point and scripted, so it is a very good use of your time.  They are each innovative, funny, entertaining, and relevant.

Portal (How to Access)

To sign up, you just go to the website and fill out a simple registration and payment form and then you’re in.  It is easy, and I started CEUs the day I signed up.

Thank you, Shelly, for contributing your CEU review for CEUflix.  Anyone interested in contributing thoughts about a CEU product or workshop, please submit your review to Hannah Hayes at hh@mtapractice.com.
